How to Sell PLR Products in 2026: Licence, Rebrand, Funnel

Here’s how to sell PLR products legally in four steps: read the licence, rebrand and improve the product, pick a channel that actually allows it, and sell it through a funnel with an email follow-up. The channel is where most guides go wrong. Gumroad’s prohibited-products list (revised 16 September 2026) bans “reselling private label rights products” outright, and Etsy only accepts digital items that are your own design, so a bundle or PDF of someone else’s work doesn’t qualify. That leaves your own sales funnel as the cleanest route. Platform rules and prices below were checked on 9 October 2026 unless a line gives another date.

What is PLR, and how is it different from MRR and resell rights?

PLR stands for private label rights. When you buy a PLR product, you buy a licence that usually lets you edit it, rebrand it and sell it under your own name. The key word is “usually”. Every seller writes its own licence, and the labels below are industry convention, not law.

The four labels you’ll meet on PLR stores:

  • PLR (private label rights): edit it, rebrand it, sell it as your own. Whether you can pass resale rights on depends on the licence.
  • RR (resell rights): sell it as-is. No edits.
  • MRR (master resell rights): sell it as-is, and your buyers may resell it too.
  • PUR (personal use rights): use it yourself. Don’t sell it.
Hand-drawn sequence of five objects: a notebook page for a blog post or video, an opt-in page form with a Submit form button, a thank-you page card with an affiliate button set to Open URL, a stack of five numbered envelopes for a 5-email sequence (1 campaign on Free), and a door marked The offer. A note says links point to your own pages.
Content sends readers to a Systeme.io opt-in page, the thank-you page carries your affiliate button, and a 5-email sequence (1 campaign on Free) keeps linking back to your own pages.

The licence document always overrides the label. A “PLR” pack can still ban giveaways or set a minimum price, and a pack sold as “MRR” can allow edits. Read the document, not the badge on the store page.

“Private” doesn’t mean exclusive, and it isn’t ownership

Two misunderstandings cause most PLR trouble.

First, every buyer gets the same files. Whoever else bought the pack has your title, your chapters and often your cover. That’s fine for a starting draft and terrible for a finished product.

Second, you don’t own the copyright. At least one ranking guide says PLR gives you “full ownership”. It doesn’t. You hold the rights the licence grants, on the seller’s terms, and that matters the moment a platform asks whether the work is yours. Etsy and Amazon KDP both do.

Step 1: Read the licence before you sell anything

Every guide on how to sell PLR products says “check the licence”. Few say what to look for. These are the eight clauses that decide what you can do, and if one is missing, treat the answer as no until the seller says otherwise in writing.

  1. Can I edit it? If not, you bought resell rights, whatever the store page calls it.
  2. Can I put my name on it? Some licences ask you to keep or remove an author credit.
  3. Can I give it away? Plenty of licences ban free distribution, which kills the “free chapter as a lead magnet” plan.
  4. Is there a minimum price? A price floor stops buyers flooding the market with cheap copies.
  5. Can I pass on resale rights? If not, your customers get personal use only, and your sales page should say so.
  6. Which marketplaces are allowed? A licence can exclude stores, and the store’s own rules apply on top.
  7. Can I bundle it? With your own products, with other PLR, or not at all.
  8. Print or physical copies? It matters if you want to sell a printed workbook.
Hand-drawn index card titled Automation rule 1 of 1: when Funnel step form subscribed, subscribe to campaign and add tag. Notes say the form button action must be Submit form and to test by opting in yourself. A sticky note lists the free plan's 1 rule, 1 tag and 1 email campaign; a tag shows Startup at $17 a month with 10 rules and 10 tags.
On Systeme.io's free plan (1 rule, 1 tag, 1 campaign per the plan table), one rule triggered by the opt-in form can both subscribe the contact to your sequence and add a tag.
! This isn't legal advice. It's a reading list. If the licence is silent on something you plan to do, email the seller, ask the exact question, and keep the reply.

Ask before you pay, not after. The PLR Funnels licence, for example, isn’t on its public pages, so confirm its terms before you buy. The same goes for any pack that shows a badge but no licence text.

Step 2: Pick a product and a niche you can actually sell

Decide who you’ll sell to before you decide what to sell. Buy PLR for an audience you can reach, not for a niche that looks popular. If you already run a small newsletter for freelance designers, a pack on client onboarding beats a popular keto pack you have no way to promote.

The quality test is simple. Read the product once and ask whether you’d put your name on it after a rewrite. “Not as it stands” is normal; that’s what Step 3 is for. “Not even after a rewrite” means walk away, however cheap it is.

Skip free PLR (everyone has it) and packs with no readable licence (you can’t follow rules you can’t see). Prefer formats you can extend: an ebook you can turn into a workbook gives you more room than a single printable.

Who this isn’t for: if you have no audience and no plan for traffic, PLR won’t fix that. A product is the easy part. Buyers are the hard part (Step 6).

Step 3: Rebrand and improve it (how much should you change?)

Rebranding means more than swapping the author name. The goal is a product a buyer couldn’t mistake for the original pack, even if they owned it.

What to change

New title A narrower angle Your own intro Your examples A new format Your cover A bonus you made

Start with the angle, because it changes everything downstream. “Meal prep for beginners” is the pack. “Meal prep for night-shift nurses” is yours, and it forces new examples, a new intro and a new title.

Then change the format. An ebook becomes a workbook with exercises, a checklist, or a short email course. Format changes are where PLR stops looking like PLR, because the original text becomes raw material instead of the product.

Finish with a bonus only you could make: a template from your own work, a worked example, a short video walkthrough.

Why it matters

Unedited PLR runs into Etsy’s originality rule and Amazon KDP’s rule on content that’s already out there (both quoted in Step 4). It also runs into buyers who already own the same pack.

How much is enough? Etsy doesn’t set a percentage, so a “change 30%” rule you read elsewhere isn’t Etsy’s. The honest test is whether the result reads as your design, built from someone else’s raw material.

Step 4: Where can you sell PLR products? Three routes, one closed

Most guides list five or six stores. The platform rules leave three real routes: Etsy after a genuine rework, your own sales funnel, and a done-for-you funnel pack. Gumroad is closed.

Hand-drawn open envelope and letter with four links annotated: your own page OK, one link to one page OK, link rotator prohibited, shortened link discouraged, plus a note to match your sending domain. A sticky note reads Amazon, April 2026: only if opted in, never in ebooks. A slip says disclose next to the link.
Link each email to one page on your own domain; Systeme.io prohibits rotators and discourages shorteners, Amazon only permits email links in solicited messages and never in ebooks, and the FTC wants the disclosure beside the link.
What most PLR guides sayWhat the platform rules say

"Gumroad is beginner-friendly for PLR"

Gumroad's prohibited list bans "reselling private label rights products".

"Bundle your PLR and list it on Etsy"

Etsy excludes "a bundle, collection, scan, or PDF of someone else's work".

"Publish it on Kindle"

KDP refuses copyrighted content that's freely available unless the copyright owner provides it.

"PLR means you own it"

You hold a licence, on the seller's terms.

Route 1: Marketplaces (Etsy only, after real rework)

Etsy’s help page on what you can sell is blunt: “Digital items listed in your shop must be made and/or designed by you, the seller.” Its Creativity Standards add that a bundle or PDF of someone else’s work doesn’t qualify, and neither do AI prompt bundles. AI work you prompted yourself is allowed, but you must disclose it. A reworked workbook can pass that test. A renamed PLR pack can’t.

Etsy’s US fees: $0.20 per listing (charged whether or not it sells), a 6.5% transaction fee, and 3% + $0.25 for payment processing. On a $27 sale (our example price, not market data), that’s about $3.02, or roughly 11%.

Gumroad: not allowed. Its prohibited-products list, revised 16 September 2026, opens with “The following products and activities are not allowed on Gumroad” and includes “reselling private label rights products”. Its fees (10% + $0.50 per direct sale) don’t matter if the listing isn’t allowed. Several guides ranking for this search still recommend it.

Amazon KDP: its content guidelines say it “will not accept content under copyright that is freely available on the web unless it’s provided by the owner of the copyright”. A pack sold to many buyers is a poor fit. Treat KDP as off-limits for anything close to the original.

Who Etsy suits: sellers who’ll turn PLR into something visibly theirs. Who it doesn’t: anyone hoping to upload the pack and walk away.

Route 2: Your own sales funnel

Your own funnel is the route no platform can close on you. You set the price (within the licence), you keep every buyer’s email address, and you can add an order bump and an upsell. Marketplaces give you none of that.

Two tools cover most PLR sellers:

Systeme.io Free$0, no card ClickFunnels Launch$97/mo, or $81/mo billed annually
Funnels 3 sales funnels Unlimited (labelled "Limited Time")
Contacts 2,000 10K
Courses 1 3
Custom domains 1 5
Getting started Free plan, no card, unlimited emails, 0% transaction fees 14-day free trial, then 30-day money-back guarantee

Systeme.io’s free plan is the honest answer if you’re selling your first PLR product and have no budget. Three funnels is enough for one product with a lead magnet. The details, and what changes on the $17/mo Startup plan (5,000 contacts), are in our Systeme.io review.

ClickFunnels makes sense once you run several funnels or want a ready-made PLR pack, because the done-for-you route below only works inside it. The trial needed a card at signup when we last checked. How the ClickFunnels 14-day trial works covers the dates, and our ClickFunnels review covers the rest.

Route 3: Done-for-you PLR funnels

PLR Funnels is ClickFunnels’ own answer to this search. Its footer reads Etison LLC, the company behind ClickFunnels, and the masterclass is presented by Russell Brunson, Paul Counts and Shreya Banerjee. The page promises “52 Private Label, Pre-Built Funnels”, each with a finished product, sales letter, upsells and downsells, email sequences, ads and social posts.

The catch is in its own instructions: “plug these funnels into your ClickFunnels account and all you have to do is change out the order button.” So PLR Funnels and ClickFunnels come as a pair. No ClickFunnels plan, no funnels.

Three things the page doesn’t show:

  • A price. You sign up for a free masterclass (name and email, with a countdown timer) and the offer comes inside. The 2023 launch price was $797, per Russell Brunson’s podcast; today’s price is only shown in the masterclass.
  • The licence. Not on the public pages. Run the Step 1 checklist before you pay.
  • A refund promise for the pack. ClickFunnels’ pricing page offers a 30-day money-back guarantee, but the PLR Funnels page says nothing about refunds, so don’t assume one.

And the “same pack” problem from Step 3 applies here too. Every buyer gets the same 52 advertised funnels, so the rework still decides whether yours sells. Our PLR Funnels review goes through the funnel count and the cost in detail.

Who it suits: ClickFunnels users with an audience who’d rather edit than build. Who it doesn’t: anyone without ClickFunnels, or anyone still looking for their first buyer.

Step 5: How to sell PLR products through a funnel

A PLR sales funnel is five pieces, and you can build all of them from one product. This is how to sell PLR digital products without depending on a marketplace’s rules.

  1. Opt-in page and lead magnet

Cut a chapter or a checklist from the PLR and give it away for an email address. Only if the licence allows giveaways.

  2. Sales page

The reworked product: your angle, your examples, your cover. This is where Step 3 pays off.

  3. Order bump or upsell

A second PLR product or the full bundle, offered at checkout. Check the bundling clause first.

  4. Email follow-up

Three to five emails to everyone who took the lead magnet but didn't buy.

  5. Delivery

A file download or a short course. ClickFunnels Launch includes 3 courses; Systeme.io Free includes 1.

Hand-drawn ruler marked 100 to 500 with an hourglass at each of the first four marks, annotated check: minutes to 6 hours, and a flag at 500 reading 16+ days: risk group. A gauge shows low risk as opens over 20% and bounces under 0.7%, and high risk as opens under 10% and bounces of 1.8 to 5%.
A new Systeme.io account sends in batches of 100 with a check of minutes to 6 hours after each, and after 500 emails an account over 16 days old is placed in a risk group.

Don’t skip the emails. They give everyone who took the lead magnet a second and third look at the offer, which a marketplace listing can’t. Write them in your own voice, even if the pack came with emails.

This is also the structure PLR Funnels ships ready-made: product, sales letter, upsells and email sequences, imported into ClickFunnels, which is why “PLR funnels ClickFunnels” is its own search. The page claims you can “Launch Each Of These In Just 15 Minutes OR LESS!!!” That’s the time it takes to swap a payment link. The rework from Step 3 takes longer, and it should.

If you’ve never built a funnel, it’s worth learning on one before buying fifty. Learn to build one funnel first with the One Funnel Away Challenge.

Step 6: Get your first buyers

Nobody can hand you traffic, and no PLR pack includes it. Even the PLR Funnels page says so in its own disclaimer: “We make no claims or representation that by using ClickFunnels you will earn money or make your money back”, and it calls the featured results “not typical”.

Three sources of first buyers, cheapest first:

  • Your own list. A small list in the right niche is worth more than a marketplace listing you don’t control. If you don’t have one, the lead magnet from Step 5 is how you start.
  • Content. Posts, short videos or community answers that solve one piece of the problem your product solves, each pointing to the opt-in page.
  • A small paid test. A fixed budget you’re willing to lose, sent to the opt-in page rather than the sales page, so you collect emails even when nobody buys on day one.

Measure two numbers: how many visitors opt in, and how many opt-ins buy. If the first is low, fix the lead magnet. If the second is low, fix the offer or the emails. Don’t buy another PLR pack until one funnel works.

What does it cost to sell PLR products in year one?

The route decides the bill. Etsy charges per listing and per sale. Systeme.io can cost nothing. ClickFunnels is a fixed monthly or annual fee, and PLR Funnels adds an unpublished pack price on top. None of this includes whatever you paid for the PLR itself.

RouteUp frontYear oneNote

ClickFunnels Launch, monthly$97/mo$1,16414-day trial first
PLR Funnels + LaunchPack price not published, plus Launch$970 or $1,164, plus the packPrice shown in the masterclass

Prices checked 9 October 2026. At PLR Funnels’ 2023 launch price of $797 (per Russell Brunson’s podcast), a first year with Launch would be $1,767 billed annually or $1,961 monthly. That’s a 2023 reference point, not today’s price.

So who should pick which route?

  • Pick Etsy if you’ll rework PLR into printables or workbooks that are clearly your design, and you’d rather pay per sale than per month.
  • Pick Systeme.io’s free plan if this is your first PLR product and the budget is zero. It’s the cheapest way to learn how to sell PLR products through a funnel. ClickFunnels vs Systeme.io covers when it’s worth moving up.
  • Pick ClickFunnels plus PLR Funnels if you already have an audience and want 52 advertised funnels to edit instead of building from scratch. See every ClickFunnels plan and what it costs, and what’s inside PLR Funnels and what it really costs.

Not for you: the PLR Funnels route if you have no list yet. Spend the first months on Systeme.io’s free plan and one funnel, then decide.

Mistakes that get PLR sellers banned or ignored

Some of these get listings removed. The rest just get ignored.

  • Listing PLR on Gumroad. Its prohibited list names PLR resale directly.
  • Uploading an unedited bundle to Etsy. That’s the exact case its Creativity Standards exclude.
  • Selling rights you don’t have. If your licence doesn’t let you pass on resale rights, you can’t sell MRR to your customers.
  • Giving away what the licence forbids. A free chapter as a lead magnet needs a licence that allows giveaways.
  • Copying income claims. PLR Funnels carries an earnings disclaimer on its own page. Don’t promise your buyers results the pack’s seller won’t promise you.
  • Selling the pack as-is on your own site. Nobody bans you. Buyers who’ve seen the same pack just won’t buy.

Frequently asked questions

Is it legal to sell PLR products?

Yes, within the licence. PLR is a licence, not ownership: you get the rights the seller grants, usually to edit, rebrand and sell. Anything the licence doesn't allow, such as giveaways or passing on resale rights, stays off-limits.

Can you sell PLR products on Etsy?

Only after a real rework. Etsy requires digital items to be "made and/or designed by you, the seller", and a bundle or PDF of someone else's work doesn't qualify. Etsy sets no minimum percentage of change.

Can you sell PLR on Gumroad?

No. Gumroad's prohibited-products list, revised 16 September 2026, includes "reselling private label rights products". Many guides still recommend Gumroad for PLR. They're out of date.

What's the difference between PLR, MRR and resell rights?

Usually: PLR lets you edit and sell as your own; resell rights let you sell as-is with no edits; MRR lets you sell as-is and pass resale rights on to your buyers; PUR is personal use only. These are conventions. The licence you bought always wins.

Do I have to change PLR content before selling it?

The licence may not require it, but Etsy effectively does, and buyers do. Change at least the title, angle, intro, examples and cover, and ideally the format. Unedited PLR competes with every other copy of the same pack.

Can I sell PLR ebooks on Amazon Kindle?

It's a poor bet. KDP won't accept copyrighted content that's freely available on the web unless the copyright owner provides it. A PLR ebook sold to many buyers sits close to that line.

How much should I charge for PLR products?

There's no reliable market rate, and we won't invent one. Price the reworked product, not the PLR you started from. Test one price on your own funnel, watch how many opt-ins buy, and adjust from there.

Do I need ClickFunnels to sell PLR funnels?

For PLR Funnels, yes: its page tells you to plug the funnels into your ClickFunnels account. For a funnel you build yourself, no. Systeme.io's free plan includes 3 sales funnels and 1 course at $0.

Do people still buy PLR products in 2026?

Buyers pay for a reworked, well-positioned product that solves their problem. They rarely pay for raw PLR they could buy themselves. If your version is clearly better than the pack, the PLR origin doesn't matter to them.

Can I give PLR products away as a lead magnet?

Only if the licence allows giveaways, and many don't. Check the giveaway clause before you build an opt-in page around a free chapter.

The bottom line

How to sell PLR products comes down to three things in order: the licence, the rework, and a channel that allows it. Skip Gumroad, which bans PLR resale. Use Etsy only for products that are now clearly yours. For everything else, your own funnel is the cleanest route: Systeme.io’s free plan if you’re starting from zero, ClickFunnels if you’re running several funnels.

If you’re already on ClickFunnels, have an audience and would rather edit than build, PLR Funnels gives you the funnels pre-built. Check the price in the masterclass and confirm the licence terms before you commit. Then rework them anyway.
